OVERVIEW The two and a half-day Symposium included sessions filled with speakers, panels, and breakout sessions. Participants in the Symposium had the opportunity to attend a full range of informative plenary sessions, such as Fraud Training; Affordable Care Act; Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) / Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs); Affordable Insurance Exchange; Compliance/Monitoring/Enforcement; Medicare 101 Basic Training as well as networking functions. A panel discussion concerning issues and challenges in Medicare took place. The Symposium brought together a multi-disciplinary group of experts representing the fields of healthcare. In keeping with the Go Green theme of this event, no printed presentation materials were provided. Presentations have been uploaded to the event website. Presentations will be archived and remain available for review after the event.
Organized breakout sessions and panel discussions offered included: • PROVIDER TRACK: Becoming a Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) Provider, Medicare Provider Enrollment, Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics, Orthotics & Supplies (DMEPOS), and Quality Care / Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH). Information in this track focuses on provider issues. Who should attend? Physicians, physician’s assistants, medical directors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, DME suppliers, social workers and other health care professionals who are instrumental in the access, availability and delivery of health care services. However, the content was suitable for individuals in other tracks as well. • PARTNERS TRACK: Fraud, Medicare Updates, Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics, Orthotics & Supplies (DMEPOS), Quality Care / Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH), and Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP). Information in this track is beneficiary focus. Who should attend? Customer service staff, advocacy groups, caregivers, social workers, State Department of Insurance, State Health Insurance Program, State Medicare Patrols, Area Agencies on Aging and others who have direct contact with beneficiaries. However, the content was suitable for individuals in other tracks as well. • MEDICARE ADVANTAGE ORGANIZATIONS TRACK: PBM/Communication Reporting Process, Compliance Hot Topics/Monitoring Oversight, Readiness/Assessment/Star Ratings/Past Performance, 2010/2011 Lessons Learned (Audit, Compliance, Sanctions) Complaints Tracking Module. Information in this track focus on Medicare Advantage Plans and Plan Sponsors. Who should attend? Compliance officers, compliance managers, marketing/sales directors, customer service staff, pharmacists. However, the content was suitable for individuals in other tracks as well.
SPECIAL FEATURES •Eligible participants received Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the Fraud training scheduled for the first day of the Symposium. Instructions • Each day began with Medicare 101 - "Breakfast with the Basics", provided in both English and Spanish. • Exhibit Hall was available and participants were offered the opportunity to experience and explore additional resources via a Cyber Café.
